'Sunil Amrith has given us the most readable global environmental history yet... a towering achievement and a joy to read' - J. R. McNeill'The Burning Earth is as beautiful as it is indispensable, as breathtaking as it is devastating. It answers questions most of us have been too daft even to ask. It will set you on fire' - Jill Lepore, author of These Truths: A History of the United States'A devastating panorama of human folly, a poetic meditation on how the search for freedom from nature undermined the very conditions for life on earth. Beautifully written, Sunil Amrith’s global and long-term view is crucial to understanding the environmental predicaments we are in, and, perhaps, to restore a distraught world. A must read for anyone concerned with the state of the planet' - Sven Beckert, author of Empire of Cotton'Memorable and mesmerizing. Sunil Amrith has gifted us a page-turner of a book, written with passionate lucidity' - Rob Nixon, author of Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the PoorIn this paradigm-shifting global history of how humanity has reshaped the planet, and the planet has shaped human history, Sunil Amrith twins the stories of environment and Empire, of genocide and eco-cide, of the expansion of human freedom and its costs. Drawing on an extraordinarily rich diversity of primary sources, he reckons with the ruins of Portuguese silver mining in Peru, British gold mining in South Africa, and oil extraction in Central Asia. He explores the railways and highways that brought humans to new terrains of battle against each other and against nature. Amrith’s account of the ways in which the First and Second World Wars involved the massive mobilization not only of men, but of other natural resources from around the globe, provides an essential new way of understanding war as an irreversible reshaping of the planet. He also reveals the reality of migration as consequence of environmental harm.

The imperial, globe-spanning pursuit of profit, joined with new forms of energy and new possibilities of freedom from hunger and discomfort, freedom to move and explore, has brought change to every inch of the Earth. Amrith relates, on the largest canvas, a mind-altering epic – vibrant with stories, characters, and vivid images – in which humanity might find the collective wisdom to save itself.

Decent bag
Color: Light Grey, Color: Light Grey
2.5 year update: I'm ready to replace my beloved grey bag, but most of the colors more than doubled in price!! I get that there's inflation, but that's insanity. It was $10.99 when I bought in 2019. Forget this brand. Dropped a star. ----------------------------------------- Original review: In the photo, that's a 32oz Nalgene bottle and a small, Periea Chelsy organizer (found on Amazon, 8.5 inches long). 9 months of near daily use so far, no issues! I even got oil and ink stains on it, and they came right out. Great runaround bag, not too big not too small. Love it. First things I did, removed the label and coated it in Kiwi Protect All spray. Pros: - 2 pockets inside are deep and sooo useful - very cute - comfortable and very light to carry - adjustable strap length, for shoulder or crossbody - price is right - machine washable Cons: - zipper is a bit "sticky" - words on the label are classic Chinese-English, reminds me of Taiwan. Lol - no inside lining - fabric could be thicker. It's thin for canvas. - metal hardware is not stainless steel Neutral: - medium size (model must be child size, pay attention to dimensions. I'd say it's similar to standard disposable grocery bag size, cept taller) - durability is questionable. It's not going to come apart if you look at it wrong, but I definitely wouldn't try using this as a bookbag either. For the price, it seems sturdy enough. When this bag dies, I will 100% be buying another one if it's still available. Love it.

Great value for amazing bag
Color: Pink
Great deal on this tote bag, the strap length is extremely adjustable for size and different wearability. It has good storage space and no pockets inside but works well. It looks great with different colors I have the pink and my boyfriend has the coffee one which looks amazing. I added pins to mine and looks great! Love this bag

I love my bag.
Color: Leopard White, Color: Leopard White
love the design, i barely put anything in it tho because it weighs the bag down even though it’s a nice size. out of the package looks like it hasn’t been sown properly thru, pieces of the fabric sticking out. (loose thread) you get what u pay for but still pretty. Update, Maybe i underestimated my baby love, she fighting the greatest fight! Still love my baby! I would buy another! i want the whole collectionnnnn!

LOVE THIS ZEBRA BAG
Color: Zebra White
I absolutely LOVE this pocketbook! I searched for a zebra print bag, then finally found this! It's big, so beware... Now l lug around everything, haha! Ive had it around a year now & it's traveled alot! It has held up well, except for a few threads, but lve seriously got wayy too much weight in mine! I do wish it had more than the little pockets on the inside (Suggestions for future bags! A big side, zippered pocked would be nice) But lm so glad l got it!!
