The remote position and unique landscape attracted a lot of illegal groups such as drug traffickers and loggers to the region. Selva Maya is the second largest tropical rainforest in the Americas after the Amazon and one of the UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves. But cocoa growing is one of the ways to use the richness of the region sustainably and Bonnat invests a lot of effort into developing this activity.
